Markus Lynn “Mookie” Betts was born on 7 October, 1992 to father, Willie Betts and mother, Diana Betts in Nashville, Tennessee, United States.

His father, Wille worked as a railroad mechanical superintendent in the Air Force During the Vietnam War.

His mother was an employee at the Tennessee Department of Transportation. His parents divorced when Betts was in elementary school.

Mookie Betts completed his primary education from John Overton High School in Nashville.
