Paul Edward Goldschmidt (born September 10, 1987) is an American professional baseball first baseman for the Major League Baseball (MLB) St. Louis Cardinals. 

Goldschmidt was lightly recruited out of The Woodlands High School in The Woodlands, Texas, and played for the Texas State Bobcats before being drafted in the eighth round by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2009. He made his Major League Baseball debut with them in 2011, and he was moved to the Cardinals during the 2018-19 offseason.

Goldschmidt has been in seven MLB All-Star games. During the 2013 season, he led the National League (NL) in home runs and runs batted in. He has received the National League Hank Aaron Award, the Gold Glove Award, and the Silver Slugger Award.

Goldschmidt was the NL Major League Baseball Most Valuable Player honour runner-up twice, in 2013 and 2015, before ultimately winning the honour in 2022.

Amy and Paul allegedly met at a study hall at Texas State University during their freshman year. Amy had no idea Paul played baseball at first. However, the two became friends and students in several of their classes together, which eventually grew into a love connection.

Paul Goldschmidt proposed to Amy when she was still in college after three years of dating. Paul told how he shocked Amy in front of their closest friends on a bitterly chilly day. A year later, the pair married at Texas Christian University’s Robert Carr Chapel. 


According to the pair, they picked the property since it is close to Colonial Country Club, which was Amy’s golfing haunts when she was younger.

Amy and Paul would also go to the Phoenix Children’s Hospital around that period. The pair even started a charity called Goldy’s Fund 4 Kids to assist create a centre that would aid in the discovery of a cure for cancer and other blood problems. Amy and Paul were awarded $186,121.94.

Goldschmidt was born on September 10, 1987, in Wilmington, Delaware. He grew up rooting for the Houston Astros.

His Jewish great-grandparents, Paul and Ilse Goldschmidt, and grandfather, Ernie (who currently resides in Fort Lauderdale, Florida), fled Nazi Germany before the Holocaust in 1938. Goldschmidt and his two brothers “know our Jewish history and respect those beliefs,” he added.

“ As children, we experienced both sides. My father’s side and my mother’s side. We were exposed to everything.” Because of the flooring firm his family runs, the Goldschmidt family relocated from Wilmington to Dallas and eventually to Houston.
