In cricket, the Man of the Match or the Player of the Match award is given to a single player who has shown an exceptional performance on the field and was the best player for the team and in the game. The term man of the match was first used by cricket then other sports also took up the name and started using it.

 A man of the match is usually given to a player from the winning side who puts up an exceptional performance and helps his team win but on an occasion when a player from the losing side puts up a heroic fight and single-handedly carries the team, he can also be given the man of the match award.

He has the record of scoring the highest runs both in one day international and test cricket where he has over 18000 runs in one-day internationals and more than 15000 runs in test.

Virat Kohli is an active Indian international cricketer who is the former captain of the Indian cricket team and the Indian Premier League franchise Royal challengers Bangalore.

He is widely considered as one of the greatest batsmen of the era and surely one of the greatest in the history of cricket. He also holds the record of scoring the most number of centuries in the one day international format as he has 50 centuries on his name.

Virat Kohli is the only active player in the list of most man of the Match awards and looking at his form of Virat Kohli he is unstoppable and is expected to be on top of the list very soon.

Sanath Jayasurya is widely regarded as one of the greatest Sri Lankan cricketers as during his playing days he was one of the key members of the Sri Lankan National Cricket Team which became one of the greatest teams in international cricket.

Sanath Jayasurya was the opening batsman of the Sri Lankan dominance and he was the one who started the aggressive approach by an opening batsman in the one day international format, an approach which is highly used by the team at present.

He was a very consistent player and the reason that he has 58 man of the Match awards is he was a great fielder as well. As a batsman, he used to score a ton of runs, as a part time bowler he used to pick up crucial wickets and as a great fielder he used to save a lot of runs because of which he was frequently chosen as the man of the match.

Jacques Kallis – 57 awards

Jacques Kallis was a former South African cricketer and at present a cricket coach who is widely regarded as one of the greatest cricketers of all time and undoubtedly the best all-rounder the cricketing fraternity has ever seen. He was a right hand aggressive batsman and right-arm medium swing bowler who could win the match with both the bat and the ball. 

He is the only cricketer in the history to score more than 10000 runs with the bat and take more than 250 wickets with the ball in both test and ODI cricket. Apart from this he was also a great fielder and these stats are the proof why he had received 57 man of the match awards throughout his career.

Kumar Sangakkara – 50 Awards

Kumar Sangakkara was a well-known Sri Lankan cricketer who was the captain of the Sri Lankan cricket team during the Sri Lankan dominance in international cricket. He was a wicketkeeper-batsman and till date he is considered as one of the greatest wicketkeepers of all time. As a left-handed middle all the batsman he could play as an anchor or finish off games to see the victory.

Being a great batsman and a great wicketkeeper, he always maintains this consistency on the field because of which she has achieved the feat of 50 man of the match awards during his playing career.
