“Ultimately, we want to win basketball games, but the experience is more important,” she told WAVE 3 News in an interview at the Macks’ home. “We’re trying to raise really good young men, and I want the parents to feel comfortable knowing that.”
When the WAVE 3 News team arrived, Christi Mack was preparing supper for their three children, 13-year-old Lainee, 12-year-old Hailee, and 3-year-old Brayden. Dad couldn’t go since he had a business function.
Christi stated that she cooks at home most evenings and prepares basic foods. Monday night’s dinner was spaghetti with rotisserie chicken, which they all ate after praying.
Christi stated that while she was house searching, she made certain to buy something with enough space to accommodate the tall basketball players they host.
“I want them to know that they become brothers to my daughters,” she explained. “To me, sons. I want to reassure the parents of those children that their children will become a part of my family. Basketball has been a part of their children’s lives.
Where does Chris Mack come from?
Chris Mack was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and grew up in North College Hill, a Cincinnati suburb. He graduated from St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati in 1988, when he was voted Cincinnati Post Metro Player of the Year in 1987-88.
Mack went on to play basketball for two seasons at the University of Evansville.
He subsequently went to Xavier University in 1990, where he played his last two seasons of eligibility (after redshirting one due to transfer regulations) and earned a B.A. in Communication Arts in 1992.

Mack began his coaching career in 1993 as the junior varsity head coach at McAuley High School, an all-girls high school in Cincinnati. Mack was selected head coach of the girls varsity basketball team at Mount Notre Dame High School in Reading, Ohio, in 1995, and he was voted Cincinnati Post Coach of the Year in 1996.
He was hired Director of Basketball Operations at Xavier University in 1999, where he worked under the late Skip Prosser, whom he replaced as an assistant coach at Wake Forest in 2001.
